May 2nd: Privacy in the House of Plenty
Thanks to Joris van Meel and his wife Michelle Veugelers visitors can now use the toilet in private, which is why they are our “Helping Hands of the Week”. Even though they do not fully agree with this.
“Michelle is the one who always took the initiative to donate our stuff to the House of Plenty, so the fame is all hers! 😉 “, according to an e-mail by Joris van Meel. Lees verder
April 18: time for the finishing touch!
Now it’s time to finish the House of Plenty. Our builders are working on the “details”, the toilet, kitchen and service unit!
The construction of the House of Plenty has been built, inch by inch, during the past winter. Since we reached the highest point, on January 23rd, the construction of the building moved forward quick as lightning. Lees verder
Helping Hands of the Week (12 April): Ruud Jansen
Ruud Jansen is already waiting at the gate before anyone has arrived to open it. As soon as the gate is open, he is the first one to get to work. This might make him the perfect candidate for our feature: the Helping Hands of the Week!
This enthusiastic volunteer is the hidden force of the House of Plenty. Lees verder
Helping Hands of the Week (31 March): Geert van Nispen
Geert van Nispen “(Re)building should be an experience, a real treat! !” is his slogan. Geert van Nispen joining our construction team is definitely a real treat for us! Juul can call him any time to ask for advice about the construction of the House of Plenty.

Proud of our House of Plenty!
Since this week the House of Plenty has got a door that can actually be locked and this week we have constructed to floor! On the 14th of March we already showed the result so far to our interested fellow builders and assistants.
We are proud of our achievements so far!
Finishing touch
It will still take a few weeks to put the finishing touches to it, but now its already actually a house! The windows are built in, we are able to get on the roof and the floor is almost finished. And all this thanks to quite a large bunch of people, who helped us in every way to construct the building from scratch.
Sneak preview
Thursday March 14 we put them in the centre of the attention and we already presented them the house. A sort-of sneak preview.
People who helped us from the very beginning of the project were there, but also people who just ‘discovered’ the house and lended a helping hand in the construction the last couple of weeks.
We all took a little sightseeing tour and everyone had the opportunity to tell about their own contribution to the House of Plenty and their motives to support our project.
Students
The students of the HAN, Janise, Helena, Philipp and Marjolein, gave our guests a warm welcome. The guests received a name tag to put on their coat, a delicious rosé spoom and they could write something on the inspiration wall. In the meantime the students were also filming and taking pictures.
A great day
After a short tour in, around and on top of the house Leon Gommers of Gargantua and Anna van Wezel of event organizer and caterer “Feestjes met”
organized a get-together with delicious snacks.
We had a great time! Check out the photos of the festive day below.
Research into the House of Plenty
Janise, Helena, Philipp and Marjolein are students of the HAN (Hogeschool Arnhem Nijmegen). As part of their training in Cultural and Social education the students inquire into the House of Plenty. On the photo you see the students and their supervisor Paul Beekers.
Their research question is:
How can the success story of the House of Plenty inspire ‘potential’ initiators to start up projects concerning social innovation?
The students will not only try to find an answer to their research question; they will also produce a video about the process of the House of Plenty project.
You can lend a helping hand!
Everyone who has joined the House of Plenty project can help the students by taking part in for example interviews or surveys.
We are thrilled that these students devote their thesis to the House of Plenty and we wish them the best of luck!

From now on you can read up on our project on both Facebook and Twitter in English as well! For our Facebook account, just type in ‘House of Plenty’ in the search bar on Facebook. Unfortunately new pages need 30 likes to get an own direct link (Facebook.com/HouseofPlenty). So please like us so we’ll have enough likes to have our own URL!
Our Twitter account is HouseofPlentyNL. See you on Facebook and Twitter!
Meanwhile at our furniture makers…
The furniture makers of the House of Plenty haven’t been sitting around doing nothing either! Take a look.
It’s nice to have a building and all, but to be able to make something useful of it we cannot do without furniture. A team of designers, furniture makers and other volunteers are constructing furniture out of recycled materials and all kinds of leftover things.
Benches
Our ‘interior team’ (Karin, José, Linde, Sasja, Marcel and Michiel) just finished the benches, so at least we can sit down! Karin about the progress on the benches: “José and I have been working diligently on the benches (see photo below). All we need to finish it are wheels and a dab of transparent finish!”
Now they can set to work on the other furniture! Karin explains that together with creative centre ‘West de Nonnendaal’ she is working on a couch out of parts of a dresser. “Conrad is the chairman of the committee and he is the organizer of Nonnendaal. Robin Dirksen is the head of the sewing department. Ibrahim sews the pieces of leather for the couch together.”
Where are we so far?
She adds: “We’re making progress on the leather, but due to the thickness of the leather we’re out of needles. We’re currently waiting for new ones. Conrad is looking for someone who wants to build the sidetables. He’ll contact me if there is any news.
Lovely, guys! Check out the photos below to see the results of their diligent work so far. More information about Conrad and Robin from creative centre West de Nonnendaal will follow.
